When crossing borders, do you think about what you will become?Despite living on the other side of the world for over 30 years, my parents still call Vietnam
their home.

					
Their migration to Slovakia has turned both of my parents into foreigners of their own. Their
identity resembles a vast landscape of collected diversities. At some point, every single
memory or thought that felt new, gradually became familiar. You exist in a place with a hint
of your past where you blend in with the present. And to blend in means becoming a person
within a person, a piece of one world within another.

To be born as a foreigner in your own country is an existential paradox. — M.M.Šimečka
To be someone is a relative term. The notion of belonging has its’ borders as well. Migration in
globalised world leaves the term nation hanging in the air. The move from one place to another
shifts borders themselves as well as is migrant carrying his border with him.I deal with (subjective) feelings of diaspora and its’ latter generations. I materialise things that
create identity. I visualise things unsaid and imagine the reality that I’m in. I try to base everything
on the history I know although I finally run into its’ limits while asking myself what will be left
after me.The written part is an additional research for the practical. At the end of it, I do not expect a specific
answer, I rather aspire to introduce the subject of diaspora as it is. Furthermore, I am trying to ask
questions that may not be answered in this very moment but could leave a trace or a hint that will
guide others in the future for the response.

Narodiť sa ako cudzinec vo svojej vlasti je existenciálny paradox. — M.M.Šimečka

						Byť niekým je relatívny pojem. Myšlienka niekam patriť má svoje (ne)hranice tiež. Migrácia v
globalizovanom svete ponecháva pojem národ premenlivo plávať medzi nami. Presun z jedného
miesta na druhé posúva samotné hranice a migrujúci si svoju hranicu nosia so sebou.Zaoberám sa (aj subjektívnymi) pocitmi diaspór a ich neskorších generácií. Zhmotňujem veci, ktoré
tvoria ich a našu identitu. Vizualizujem nevypovedané a predstavujem si realitu, v ktorej sa
nachádzam. Vychádzam z histórie, ktorú poznám, aj keď narážam na jej limity - a zároveň sa pýtam,
čo ostane po mne.

						Písomná práca je výskumom, ktorý doplňuje svojimi poznatkami praktickú časť. Na konci
výskumu neočakávam konkrétnu odpoveď, ale skôr sa usilujem samotnú tému identity diaspór
otvoriť. Zároveň je zámerom pýtať sa otázky, ktoré možno nebudú úplne zodpovedané, no
zanechajú stopu, ktorá môže naviesť v budúcnosti ďalších k ich zodpovedaniu.

We’ve focused on couples of different nationalities and their personal definition of the notion ‘trust’. Our main aim was to, firstly, create an open discussion between each of them and, at the same time, leave them with rather a liberty of what they are willing to unveil. Dialogues and debates that were conducted among the couples are enclosed with freely interpretable photographs.

Zamerali sme sa na páry zmiešaného krajinného pôvodu a ich osobný význam pojmu dôvera. Naším hlavným cieľom bolo vytvoriť medzi nimi otvorenú diskusiu na túto tému a ponechať im voľnosť v tom, čo sú ochotní povedať. Dialógy a úvahy, ktoré medzi pármi vznikli sú doplnené o voľne interpretované fotografie.

	DIAR VSVU &#124; 2018&#38;amp;2019[EN]
edit, visual dramaturgy and production- a collaboration with graphic designer Lucia Gamanová 
DIAR 2018 was created as a product at Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. Our goal was to connect two departments - visual communication and photography. The result was a diary, inspired by students of art - with plenty of space to write in, draw and create concepts, with the best photographs of the department of Photography and New Media and a beautiful design by Lucia Gamanová. We sold all 100 pieces.

edit, vizuálna dramaturgia, produkcia- spolupráca s grafickou dizajnérkou Luciou GamanovouDIÁR 2018 vznikol ako produkt na Vysokej škole výtvarných umení v Bratislave. Naším cielom bolo spojit dve katedry - vizuálnu komunikáciu a fotografiu. Výsledkom bol diár, inšpirovaný študentami umenia - s priestorom na zápisky, kresby a nové koncepty - s najlepšími fotografiami z katedry fotografie a nových médii a krásnym dizajnom of Lucie Gamanovej. Všetkých 100 kusov sa predalo.

New populations called diaspora are forming in consequence of migration. Diaspora refers to people that&#38;nbsp; do not reside in a country they were born in but still manage to keep ties with their formal culture.In its form, diaspora has utopian features.Floaters cross through transit space and change their pastness and future with presence. They are ripped from a context of a former home and compose new histories. Despite that, they carry the border with them and still identify themselves with homeland.

With diasporas, the primary meaning of home changes and becomes something between real and imaginary. Their identities are constructed through memory, narrative and myth and constantly sink and re-emerge from the depths of memories. 

Space installation is a lyrical transfromation of a philosophical as well as physical space through which they pass, but also existed in and still do. 

[SK]V dôsledku migrácie vznikajú nové obyvateľstvá zvané diaspory. Diaspora označuje ľudí, ktorí nežijú v krajine, v ktorej sa narodili, no pritom zachovávajú väzby na ich pôvodnú kultúru. Diaspora má vo svojej forme utopistické črty. Fluktujúci prechádzajú cez tranzitný priestor a menia svoje minulosti a budúcnosti prítomnosťou. 

Sú vytrhnutí z kontextu pôvodného domova a tvoria si nové histórie. Napriek tomu však nosia hranicu so sebou a identifikujú sa so svojou rodnou krajinou. Pôvodný význam domova sa ale pri diasporach mení a stáva sa niečím medzi reálnym a imaginárnym. Ich identity sú konštruované cez pamäť, príbehy a mytológiu a konštatne sa vnárajú a vynárajú z hlbín spomienok na domov. 

Priestorová inštalácia je lyrickou transformáciou priestoru, cez ktorú prechádzajú, ale aj v ktorej sa nachádzali a momentálne nachádzajú.

a collective psyche &#124; 2018Revisiting the seascapes of Plymouth city was a profound
meditation and time well spent on thoughts about floaters, migrants, boat
people – people I can relate to. I discovered within the borders of the beach
that people are looking out to the sea to call their loved ones’ home. As if
the sea was the temporary place to call home. 


The work consists of sixty-nine pieces of small worlds
that I found in my seascapes. I can see more than just the waves. I see new
worlds and cities that my mind latently creates. I imagine mountains, skies,
birds and faces - in each and every one of them a different story. 
The water really is a collective psyche.
